Weather in Kenya

Kenya has a diverse geographical composition. This makes the aspects of Kenyan weather such as temperature; humidity and rainfall vary between the different regions in Kenya. The Kenyan weather pattern is based on four zones.

The Western Kenyan weather is characterized by rainfall throughout the year. Rainfall is at minimum during the month of January and it is highest during the month of April. In western Kenya, the maximum temperatures range from 300c - 360c (860F – 960F) while the minimum temperature during the cold season ranges from 140c – 160c (57.2oF – 60.80F)

The Central and the Rift valley provinces are in a similar weather zone. The two provinces have two rainy seasons. The first season occurs during the months of July to April while the other season occurs during the months of October to end of November. The minimum temperature in the two provinces is in the range of 190c – 140c (66.20F – 57.20F) while the maximum temperature ranges from 220c – 280c (71.60F– 82.40F)
The Rift Valley

The North Eastern and Eastern province are the semiarid areas of Kenya. Day temperatures can be as high as 40c0 while the temperatures during the night can go to lows of up to 200c (680F). The wettest month in the two provinces is November while the driest month is July.
The Kenyan Coast

The coastal region is characterized by a consistent high level of humidity and high temperatures throughout the year. The temperature level of the coastal region is consistent, with the daily temperature levels falling in the range of 220c – 300c (71.60F - 860F)

When planning for a Kenyan safari, go for the months of January to February. At this time, the Kenyan weather is at its driest and hence perfect for game watching while on a Safari. The hot weather makes the wild animals easy to spot as they congregate in the proximity of watercourses.
