Kenya Animals to See while on Safari


Kenya has a diverse species of wild animals. This because Kenya is divided into different climatic and geographical regions. Each climatic region is well suited for the species of Kenyan animal it has. This makes Kenya to be a paradise worth visiting. While in Kenya, there are some animals you will probably the while on a Kenyan Safari.

The Kenyan animals that are most popular among the tourists in Kenya are the ‘Big Five’ animals. This group consists of lion, leopard, Elephant, Rhino and Buffalo. Apart from the Big Five, there are some animals that that roam the Kenyan parks and reserves. This is the group that is composed of carnivorous animals such as the Cheetah. The cheetah is a ferocious predator with well-adapted feature for Savannah hunting. Its spotty fur gives it a camouflage against the savannah background in order to quietly stalk its prey. The sight of a cheetah in pursuit of prey is one is spectacular and very memorable.

Apart from the cheetah, you will see some other smaller carnivorous animals while on a Kenyan safari. Other carnivorous to see are Jackals, Civets, Cervals, Genets and Mongoose. The Other carnivorous animal/scavenger is the Hyena. The Hyena is a small sized animal the size of a jackal with a spotty yellow fur.





Hyenas most of the times would like to feed on leftovers of other carnivorous animals. However, this should not be used in inferring that that the Hyena is a timid animal. In case of danger or starvation, the Hyena can turn into a vicious predator so the sole purpose of survival.

The Hyena has some excellent hunting skills and when in a group, the Hyena is more as dangerous as a wounded lion.

Apart from the carnivores, the Kenyan parks also have the herbivorous. Herbivorous is a mode of feeding whereby the animal eats only vegetative matter. So which of the Kenyan animal are the “vegetarian”?

After the elephants and the buffaloes, the giraffes are the next popular herbivorous on the Kenyan animals list. Kenya has more than 45000 of these elegant animals. This number makes Kenya to be the home of more than a third of the wildlife population.

The wild beast is another herbivorous Kenyan animal that you would like to see while on a safari. You can see over 1.5 million wild beast while on a Masai Mara safari. The wild beasts’ migration is one of the most spectacular sight that has been added as the seventh wonder of the world.

The other animal to see while on a Kenyan Safari is the Hippopotamus. The hippopotamus (usually shortened to Hippo) is a member of the pig’s family. It has a large oily body with broad jaws. You will most likely see a hippo while near a fresh water bodies such as lakes or swamps. Despite their docile nature, the hippo is one of the most dangerous Kenyan animals and a hippo with a calf is more ferocious and can attack at the slightest provocation.
