Kenya Animals to See while on Safari


Kenya has a diverse species of wild animals. This because Kenya is divided into different climatic and geographical regions. Each climatic region is well suited for the species of Kenyan animal it has. This makes Kenya to be a paradise worth visiting. The other animal to see while on a Kenyan Safari is the Hippopotamus. The hippopotamus (usually shortened to Hippo) is a member of the pig’s family. It has a large oily body with broad jaws. The Big Five Kenyan Animals


Kenya is widely known for its animals. Kenyan animals are found in the game parks and reserves found in the country. Most tourists coming to Kenya come to see the ‘Big Five’ Kenya animals. The big five is a collective name for five of the most popular Kenya animals.

The Lion

The Buffalo

The buffalo is characterized by thick upward curving horns on its forehead and its almost black fur. The buffalo is a social animal. One male seeks several females and forms a herd. Once the male ages, younger buffaloes depose it of its ‘Throne’ and makes it leave its herd. 

The deposed male is specifically dangerous as it can attack any person/animal even when unprovoked.The largest herds of buffalo are found in the Kenyan parks.

The Elephant

The Elephant is the largest Kenyan animal and the largest living mammal. The Elephant has a gigantic and imposing structure. This has made the elephant to lack any natural predator other than the poachers who kill the animal for its valuable tusks.

The Leopard

The leopard is another Kenyan animal of the cat family. This Kenyan animal is popularly known as the ‘silent predator’.This title is derived from the fact that the leopard is nocturnal (hunts at night) and has a spotty fur which acts as a camouflage while hunting.

The leopard is a very private animal. Once it hunts, the leopard climbs with its kill on its mouth to the tallest trees around and has its private dinner there. This is an adaptation against scavengers such as hyenas.

The Rhinoceros

Weather in Kenya


Kenya has a diverse geographical composition. This makes the aspects of Kenyan weather such as temperature; humidity and rainfall vary between the different regions in Kenya. The Kenyan weather pattern is based on four zones.

The Western Kenyan weather is characterized by rainfall throughout the year. Rainfall is at minimum during the month of January and it is highest during the month of April. In western Kenya, the maximum temperatures range from 300c - 360c (860F – 960F) while the minimum temperature during the cold season ranges from 140c – 160c (57.2oF – 60.80F)

The Central and the Rift valley provinces are in a similar weather zone. The two provinces have two rainy seasons. The minimum temperature in the two provinces is in the range of 190c – 140c (66.20F – 57.20F) while the maximum temperature ranges from 220c – 280c (71.60F– 82.40F)
The Rift Valley

The North Eastern and Eastern province are the semiarid areas of Kenya. Day temperatures can be as high as 40c0 while the temperatures during the night can go to lows of up to 200c (680F). The wettest month in the two provinces is November while the driest month is July.

The coastal region is characterized by a consistent high level of humidity and high temperatures throughout the year. The temperature level of the coastal region is consistent, with the daily temperature levels falling in the range of 220c – 300c (71.60F - 860F)
